Central European University (CEU) Press is pleased to present another new Open Access (OA) book funded by the Opening the Future library membership programme:

  • The Historical Construction of National Consciousness. Selected Writings Jenő Szűcs. Edited by Gábor Klaniczay, Balázs Trencsényi, Gábor Gyáni
  • A long essay entitled Three Historical Regions of Europe, appearing first in a samizdat volume in Budapest in 1980, instantly put its author into the forefront of the transnational debate on Central Europe, alongside such intellectual luminaries as Milan Kundera and Czesław Miłosz. The present volume offers English-language readers a rich selection of the depth and breadth of the legacy of Jenő Szűcs (1928–1988).

This book is published in OA format, making it freely accessible and downloadable to the research community immediately after publication. Funding for this new OA title comes from the Press’ collective library membership programme Opening the Future, bringing the initiative’s OA output to 9 titles.

Opening the Future at CEU Press is a cost-effective way for libraries to increase their digital collections on the history and culture of Central and Eastern Europe and the former communist countries.

Subscribing libraries get unlimited multi-user access to curated packages of backlist books, with perpetual access after three years. The Press uses membership funds solely to produce new frontlist titles in OA format. All OA titles are made available via Project MUSE, JSTOR, OAPEN, DOAB and the ORL.
