The Library at University of Chicago recently became a subscriber member of CEU Press and Liverpool University Press’s OA monograph funding programmes.

Chicago has chosen to subscribe to three packages of backlist eBooks, enhancing their digital collection by 136 titles in total. With this subscription, staff and students now have access to 36 books from the LUP monograph series Contemporary Hispanic and Lusophone Cultures, and Liverpool Latin American Studies, and also access to 100 CEUP books on the politics, economics, culture and history of Central and Eastern Europe. All eBooks in the packages are DRM-free, with concurrent/multi-user access, and after 3 years of membership the Library will retain access to all of them in perpetuity.

Both CEU Press and Liverpool University Press will use the subscription/membership fees to (only) fund new open access books, which are made freely available globally. It is a cost-effective collective subscription model that, through its membership scheme, makes library funds go further: achieving the dual objectives of increasing collections and supporting Open Access.

You can check out how how many OA books library members have already funded at the following links, and there are more in the pipeline at both presses:
