CEU Press are pleased to announce that The Bibliothèque Universitaire des langues et civilisations (BULAC) is a new subscribing member to their Opening the Future programme.

Opening the Future and CEU Press are very grateful for the library’s investment and their support of our aims to make scholarship openly available in a sustainable way. Charles-Henri Peretti, speaking on behalf of BULAC, explained that:

The Bibliothèque Universitaire des langues et civilisations (BULAC) in Paris offers its readers a range of digital resources covering the geographical and linguistic areas of the non-Western world.

Aware of the needs of its research community, BULAC has chosen to focus its acquisition policy on sustainable open access models for scientific publishing, avoiding in particular the author-pays model.

The Opening the Future model meets BULAC's goal of providing its research community with high-quality scientific documentation from CEU Press as well as supporting new open access publications that benefit a wider audience.

By joining OtF and supporting open scholarship, BULAC has also boosted their local collection by subscribing to the Past Meets Present Package, History Package, Political Science Package, Editor’s Choice Package, and East Meets West Package. This means that staff and students now have unlimited and concurrent access to nearly 250 different eBooks from across a wide cross section of the Press’ backlist on the socio-politics, history, and culture of Central and Eastern Europe.

As with all Opening the Future members, BULAC has enhanced their eBook collection with titles relevant to the university’s research and teaching needs - and at the same time their membership fees are funding new frontlist titles in OA format so that everyone, including their users, will benefit from the global open collection it contributes to.

Through the generous support of member libraries like them all over the world, CEU Press has already been able to publish over 60 new OA books (with more funded and planned) which are all freely available for download from Project MUSE, OAPEN, JSTOR and other open platforms. You can read about, and access, all the OA books on the progress page: ceup.openingthefuture.net/forthcoming

If you would like to see how your library might similarly enhance your digital collection by becoming a member of Opening the Future, you can read more about the programme, and sign up in just a few clicks at ceup.openingthefuture.net or sign up directly via Lyrasis or Jisc through your normal invoicing workflow.
